My mother Annie Marie Jones (Ricketts) (1903-1978) lived on Washington Street (near Danville, VA), which was in Pittsylvania County, Virginia until 1931. In 1917, she was attending the Alonzo Jefferson Allen School on Third Ave. The teacher/principal was Mary Arnett. There was a Dr. Arnett in Danville in the mid 1900s. Two teachers at the school were Miss Pricie Chaney and Miss Gladys Motley (Growney). Third Avenue Christian Church started in the school building in 1914. Anyone who knows more, let me know.
