Cass County was enumerated under Van Buren Co, Missouri in 1840. I found Thomas W. Arnot and James Arnott in Grand River Township, where Lorenzo Dickey was also located. Lorenzo and Mary had a little girl by the time of the census. They were enumerated on the page before the two Arnett males. I'd try seeing what you could find on these guys. James was in the 30 - 40 age group and must have been widowed --- there was a 50 to 60 year old woman in the household, possibly his mother; Thomas was in the 40 - 50 age group and his wife was in the 30 - 40 age group. My guess is that Thomas and James were brothers. Mary Arnett Dickey was in the 15 - 20 age group, so if James was in his late 30s and Thomas was in his early 40s, either of them could theoretically have been her father. They could also be older brothers.
