You may be speaking of the Atrisco Land Grant which occupies the area you spoke of. It was not sold, it was incorporated into Westland Development. Rio Rancho's tract was not in the orginial bounds of the Atrisco Land Grant. Numerous families from Armijo (the town) were granted the land.
