Jonathan,

My husband's family came from Palu. Miriam Kurkjian, my husband's grandmother, married Charles Mullian in Grand Rapids, MI in 1916. Her older sister Makrouhi married Sarkis Berberian who was murdered in 1915. From a family history booklet put together by one of my husband's distant cousins: "[Another sister] Serpouhi Kurkjian [wife of Hagop Pasoyian who was also murdered in 1915] and Makrouhi with their families were caught in the massacres during World War I. For four years they experienced all the horrors of war and lost most of their families. Makrouhi lost four children in 1915. The two sisters found refuge in Aleppo and did tailoring for a living. In 1920 each with ony one surviving child, Emmanuel and Berjouhi, they arrived in America." Berjouhi was my father-in-law's first cousin, and she remembered much about their experiences.

Is there a Sarkis Berberian among your Berberians?
