The question is - does Keghi sound like a French-speaking person would pronounce a words spelled "Keri"? The ships where I have seen the references to Keri were all owned by the French Fabre Lines, whose ships sailed mainly out of Le Havre and Cherbourg, France. These lists were compiled in France, before the passengers boarded the ships. Assuming that the person interviewing the passenger to prepare the lists were a native of France, how would they transcribe the Armenian pronunciation of Keghi in their language? The French "r", as in Paris, for example, sounds "uvular", or articulated with the back of the tongue held close to or touching the uvula. The descriptions I've seen of the Armenian sound transliterated in "gh" appear uvular, as well.
