We may be related. My great grandfather was a Kurkjian and had a silk factory in Kharpert. We have samples of his silk cloth.
The Armenian Library and Museum of America in Watertown, MA. had an exhibit of silk fabrics. We happened to have the sample of
one of the cloths on display.
We have a written genealogy. Joseph Kurkjian was born in 1799. He married Serpouhi Sohigian. Their son, Krikor, was born in 1835. Krikor married Hripsime Berberian and had 12 children. Krikor started the silk factory in 1876 and imported silkworms from Boursa.Their daughter, Peruz,my grandmother, married Mugerditch Barnum Tashjian who was named after the missionary Barnum who was the president of the college in Kharpert which was on the hill above their home. Krikor was also involved in local government. Krikor had red hair and to this day we have red headed family members.
The genealogy continues to the present with hundreds of descendants.
