Many of our Armenian ancestors travelled from Turkey through China, Russia and Japan to escape the persecution of the Turks and in search of freedom.
My Uncle Vartan Poochigian and Uncle Hovageem Melkonian walked from the Kharpert region of Turkey all the way through China, Russia (Siberia) to Japan (Yohahama) before they sailed across the Pacific Ocean to San Francisco and ended up in Fresno, California.
