Armenian Research needed
Posted by: Charmayne Kasparian (ID *****7402) Date: April 21, 2011 at 16:07:31

I am new to this, so don't really know what I'm doing, but will just give it a shot.

I am trying to find out something about my husband's family history. Thomas Kasparian. His grandparents came from Smyrna (Ismir) just before the killing of the Armenians. His father was Stephen Kasparian and his mother was Anna Yerezian (or Arisdagesian) His mother's father was a 3rd generation Armenian priest, and they changed his name to Arisdagesian because of that)

I have understood that when the Turks killed the Armenians, they burned the records from the churches, so don't know if any records are available.

My question is, does anyone know a reliable person who speaks Turkish or Armenian who could do some research? One site I accessed said there were Armenian records in Istanbul??

Any insights anyone could give for this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Charmayne Kasparian
