Here is what my mother had to say in response to your question It is a custom that is not Armenian but is more a cultural habit in Muslim countries. Nothing is said with them and they are really “worry beads” rather than a rosary. They are called worry beads and they are in a ring. I don’t know the number, but I could count one. Note: they are usually only used by men. I also found a reference to them at http://www.thestar.com/GTA/Columnist/article/413499 I definitely remember by grandfather using them, but don't remember him saying anything with them.
