Hi Jimi, we have the same surname,it is prononunced Abgaryan in armenian.
I also thought it was Apkarian, with k, but recently I met some armenian guys living here in Argentina, and they told me it was Abgaryan, which means Abgar's son.
My grandfather also scaped from the turks, his name was Karapet (or Garabed), I'm trying to find his family.
Do you know the name of the city or region where your grandfather was born?
