Ancestors named Sarkis Boyajian of Eastern Turkey
Posted by: Barbara Fortier Mike Boyajian (ID *****0189) Date: January 26, 2006 at 14:38:11
  of 2184

The village we believe Sarkis Boyajian came from was Jermuk which was part of Turkey at one time. Sarkis was the most active member of the Self Defense committee. Along with Sarkis this secret committee established in 1908 there was

Petros Effendi
Abraam Aro Grigorian
Harutun Aro Grigorian
Nikodos Nxzi Nanukian
Sarkis Goloomposian
Nanuk Kurgian
Aretik Zakojluian
Kgazar Boyajian

The committee was secretly organized against expected attack by Kurds and Turks.

In the fall of 1909, the self-defense committee of Jermuk became a member of the party of Dashnakutun.

Sarkis Boyajian to America around 1911, possibly through Cuba or Ellis Island. He was around 46 yo. He married a Paris Mardigian. She would have been around 26 yo. when she came to America. Sarkis lived in Mass and later moved to Burlington Vermont and worked in the Woolen Mills.

Much of the information we have regarding the committe of self defense committee came from a book called The Memorial of Jermuk, written in 1969, Boston. This book was written by Sarkis G. Parsamian and was written in an Armenian language. We had a portion translated.

Please email or respond with any information you may feel would be helpful. Thank you!
