Having spent some time researching my family tree, I have now found several variations in the spelling of my surname (Arkle, Arkyl, Arkwell etc) all within the same family!!

I also have some information that say that the surname and its derivatives are Norse in origin and as a surname means son of Arnkjell. Arnkjell meaning eagle-cauldron refering to the sacrificial cauldron of norse mythology.
