John Argraves and Dorsey? 1850 census info....
It's been a while since I've read from here, I didn't realize there was new info until I picked up my genealogy again for the first time in years (I have three preschool children keeping me busy) and found my way back here again. I'm quite excited about the finding of Mary Jane's obituary.
I've been poking around the 1850 and 1860 census. In the 1850 census I noticed that John and Mary J. lived with a William and Caroline Dorsey. Has anyone thought to look for a marriage certificate for Caroline to see if there's a chance she's an Argraves? Both her and John were born in England. It's not too much of a stretch to think that possibly she's related somehow. If she just happened to be his sister then perhaps we could get their parent's name (if it's on her marriage certificate).... I know it's a long shot, but it's a shot. I can't think of too many reasons for John to be living in their home other than them being family, or him paying for room and board and someone to watch Mary as he works his farm and builds a home, etc....
Any thoughts on following this just in case..... I have no idea how to get my hands on a record of their marriage certificate to check myself or I would.
I welcome any information you all may have on John Argraves (the one who married and had Admiral, my grandfather was Henry, Admiral's son).
