I do not know what the census taker would put down but here in the USA census takers sometimes would mispell or make a name more phonetic to suit his inability to overcome language barriers or letter combinatjions not anglo-saxon making K for ch in Italian or since South America would be more familiar with double LL, RR, CC and so a european with one letter woluld be spelled with two letters with those three letters.
