If you can search far enough back through Census or other records to make a connection to earlier Areys, there are a couple of things that might help you.

There is a book called MAINE FAMILIES IN 1790, and an article in the NEW ENGLAND HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL REGISTER OF 1932 (Vol. 86). This article is called, "Richard Arey and Some of His Descendants".

Any good genealogy library should have these publications.
