Dear Lionel,
Recently, I was in Ville Platte for several days and had a most pleasant visit with your mother. I bought one of two books she still had for sale. I plan to visit her again in June. I also hope to attend the Guillory family reunion in Opelousas at that time.
I too am a Guillory descendant. I descend from Joseph Pierre Gregoire Guillory and his wife Marie Jeanne LaCase; Their son Jean Louis Guillory m. Marie Jeanne Belaire Fontenot; their daughter, Marie Louise Guillory m. Jean Pierre Savant from New Orleans. These are my Guillory and Savant ancestors. Joseph Pierre Gregoire Guillory formed an alliance with his slave, Marguerite, after Marie Jeanne LaCase died and I have followed Marguerite's family as well. I am also an Ardoin descendant, but at the moment, I cannot tell you how. I would have to do a kinship report.
When I visit your mother in June, I would like to bring a camera and take pictures of her pictures. Jesslyn Morein, m. to Francis Foret, has a picture of my 2nd great-grandfather, Pierre Felix Morin, that she allowed my son, Joe, to photograph and the picture turned out well. That is the picture that appeared in the "Bonnes Nouvelles" article "Tracing the Morin/Morein descendants". I entered that article on RootsWeb.com on the Martinique Board.
From my conversation with your mother, I understood that she is concerned about what will happen to her collection after she is gone. Please, keep it intact. I saw some wonderful drawings by Margaret Fontenot at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home. It would be great to hang copies of your mom's collection of pictures there. The originals are too priceless - someone would steal them!
