Francois Damas Ardoin
b. 01 Nov 1862 in
Evangeline Parish, LA. bt.Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Ville Platte, LA He was the s/o Jean Baptiste Ardoin,Sr. & Mathilda Tate.
In 1900 United States Federal Census - Ancestry.com
he was living in St. Landry Parish, Police Jury Ward
7, Enumeration District 65. He told the census enumerated
on the 17th day of June that he was married 19 years.
The following is from Southwest Louisiana Records by Rev. Donald J. Hébert, V. 14, p. 15: Ardoin, Dumas Francois
(Jean Baptiste & Mathilde Cete (should read Tate)m. 16 Nov 1860 Elizabeth Manuel (Eunice Ch.: v. 1, p. 117)
Note: This is a Chataignier Church record stored at St. Anthony's in Eunice. The couple married at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Chataignier, LA.
Elizabeth, b. 27 Sep 1865, bt. St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, LA was the d/o Agricole & Pauline N. J. Fontenot. Note: N.J. is her dit or clan name. "J" is the Jacque or Jac clan. Her grandfather was Napoleon Auguste J. Fontenot.
Guess that is where the N. came from. I would have expected her to be A.J. for her father Auguste Jac or Jacque, but there is no hard and fast rule about dit or clan names.
I have listed 9 children for this couple, including Amynthe Ardoin b. 10 Jan 1897, bt. Chataignier Church. I have a very large Fontenot Family file.
I do not have a marriage date for Lastie E. S. Fontenot
and Amynthe Ardoin. I have one child listed for this
couple, Lencie Fontenot, with a note she married Clevine
Fontenot. I failed to note the source. I subscribe to
several publications and guess that is where I found their names.
On a personal note, Lastie E. S. is a Simon. My maternal grandmother was Adelaide Simon Fontenot. Her father was
Alcide Placide Simon Fontenot. These clan names facinate
me. I descend from at least 5 of the clans. My father
is a Larose or LR and both my parents are Belaires.
Fr. Hébert's SWLR that I own end with the year 1909, V. 41.
Claitors in Baton Rouge has taken over Hebertpublications
and has published 6 more books that I saw in the Evangeline
Parish Library in Ville Platte, but I did not buy these.
