Of French extraction. Arguin, Arguien, Arduin, Argouin, and in the case of my husband's family, Ardine.

The original family ancester in North America was Francois HARDOUIN of France. Francois HARDOUIN married Catherine COGNET on May 31, 1703 in the commune of Contigne, Dept of Maine-et-Loire, France. Their son was also named Francois and was baptized on 18 Apr 1706 in Cherre, Dept of Maine-et-Loire, France.

Francois, the son, is next recorded at St Foye, Quebec, Canada as Francois ARGUIN where he married Helene BELLEAU dit LA ROSE on 05 Nov 1736. Her family had already been in Quebec for a generation or two.

Francois and Helene had a son, Joseph ARGUIN who married Marie Anne BOUCHER 09 Jan 1775 at St Henri de Lauzon, Quebec.

Joseph and Marie had a son, Joseph ARGUIN who married Marie FORTIER 11 Oct 1811 at St Gervais, Bellechasse, Quebec.

This Joseph and Marie had a son, Barthelemi ARGUIN who married Sophie CAMERON 11 Jul 1853 at St Evariste, Lambton, Quebec.

Barthelemi and Sophie had a son, Joseph ARGUIN/ARDINE who married Marie LESSARD 03 Jul 1888 at Lambton (Beauce, Quebec.

There are other branches of this family, of course. Bill Pac will be compiling and publishing a book on the Francois HARDOUIN family and may be reached via e-mail for further info. E-mail me for his e-mail address if you are interested.
