1. I meant to mention that I found Arthur Simkin [sic], Jr. in a transcription (with many obvious spelling errors) of the 1820 Edgefield Dist., SC census, in the Beech Island area, next to Milledge Golfin [Galphin] and near Lamar, Ardis, Neal [Nail] and Tobles [Tobler] families. He is listed as 26-45 years old with 4 young males (3 under 10, 1 10-16) and one woman (16-26) in the household with him. 19 slaves are listed. Given his marriage in 1813, he might have been married before, but not necessarily.

The Arthur Simkins who was a founder of Edgefield village lived about 3 miles outside the village at his plantation Cedar Fields. Even though both were in Edgefield District, the village is a long way from Beech Island near Augusta. I have never seen him listed with a son named Arthur.
