Arant Family Genealogy Forum

Arrant family of German orgin and the early spelling of the name is Arndt. The immigrant family arrived in the port of Philadelphia from Hanau, Hesse, Germany in 1733 aboard the Ship Hope. Migration trail to TX leads from PA, Rowan Co NC, Gheserfield Co SC, Lincoln and Upsom Co's GA, Russell Co AL, Ouachita Parish LA, to Tyler Co, TX. (This was from information supplied by a great-grandson of Reddick Arrant). From other source it is stated that the Arrants first settled in PA, but apparently did not remain long. Peter b. 1749 in PA and Jacob Arrant setled n the Chesterfield district (now Chesterfield Co) in SC near the NC border, before the Rev. war. About the same time Conrad Arrant bought land near them across Lynches Creek in what is now Kershaw co. William Arrant came from PA and settled farther west just over border in NC. Shortly after 1800 Peter and Jacob dropped one "r" from their name and ever afterward the family has been known as Arant. Jacob had five sons and two daughters, Peter had two sons and three daughters (US Census report). My husbands family comes from Union Parish LA. with the spelling of Arrant. There are Arants in Ouachita Parish. Each October in Stephensville TX, a Arrant reunion is held for all Arrant descendents. We have never been, but they draw a large crowd. People come from all over.
