I'd forgotten that this forum existed and I was on it early. You are right that the Arants came over from Holland, but they were really Germans from the Paltz area (Palatines). The main Arant family stems from two brothers, Peter & Jacobus, that came here in 1764 thru Philadelphia, but settled in what is now the northern part of SC. I am descended from Jacobus, whose family basically spread westward, while Peter's family basically spread southward.
