de Ragona of Montemurro
My ancestors include the Noble family of "de Ragona" of Montemurro in the old Kingdom of Naples. My earliest known ancestor of this line was Giovanni Battista de Ragona, born about 1450. His son Nobile Giovanni Antonio de Ragona married Thomasa Marsicano, sister of the Baron of Battiverano. The name means "of Aragon" in the dialect of the region. It has been claimed that they descended from the Royal House of Aragon, but there were also Jews of this name in the Kingdom of Naples at this time (1400s) such as Moyse Constantino de Ragona. Either way, the family came from Aragon in Spain, during the epoch when the House of Aragon ruled over the Kingdom of Naples. Has anyone found any connections between the families in Spain and southern Italy?
