My interest:

***In March of 1882, James Thomas Petillo (actually James H.) bought the land of J.B. Webb in Galley Rock Township of Yell County. It was about 50 acres and was one of many acquitions by a prospering Petillo. It probably adjoined land already owned by Petillo.

***Webb, Sarah F. (Croft) d/o William Frederick Croft
w/o John B. Webb - born 20 Jul 1828, d 29 Dec 1877.
John B. Webb married Sarah F. Croft in 1853 in Attala County Mississippi.

***By 1880 J.B. Webb was remarried to his second wife, Sallie, when the land in Galley Rock was sold to Petillo.
The records say that she was Sallie Colwell. The 1880 census says that she was born in Alabama in 1843.

Here is that Webb family in 1880 Yell Co., AR.

1880 United States Federal Census
J.B. Webb
Home in 1880: Magazine, Yell, Arkansas
Age: 49
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1831
Birthplace: South Carolina
Spouse's Name: Sallie Webb
Father's birthplace: South Carolina
Mother's birthplace: South Carolina
Occupation: Farming
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Male
Household Members: Name Age
J.B. Webb 49
Sallie Webb 37
James W. Webb 21
John Webb 13
Charles Webb 10
Martha Webb 6

***The 13 year old John Webb is my mother's father.

***Note the Webb move from Galley Rock to Magazine.

***J.B. Webb and Sallie were still alive when William S. Brunson rode out to their farm to ask permission to marry Martha. That was somewhere around 1890.

***There was a Sarah Webb that married a Goodman in 1891. Is she the Sallie Webb in the above census?

Sarah Webb
Arkansas Marriages, 1837-1944

birth: 1843 —Ala (probably Ola), Yell, Arkansas
marriage: 25 Nov 1891 —Yell, Arkansas
spouse: George W. Goodman

groom's name: George W. Goodman
groom's birth date: 1841
groom's birthplace: Ala, Yell, Arkansas
groom's age: 50
bride's name: Sarah Webb
bride's birth date: 1843
bride's birthplace: Ala, Yell, Arkansas
bride's age: 48
marriage date: 25 Nov 1891
marriage place: Yell, Arkansas

This could be the widow of J.B. Webb. John B. Webb's first wife, Sarah F. Croft Webb died in 1879 and is buried on Petillo Hill at Centerville.

I have found no other reference to Goodman and Webb. I have found no Colwells who might be Sarah or Sally.

Seeing the connection between Petillo and Webb and then adding in the Goodman factor is intersting.

Who knows more?
