His Uncle was Charles GROVES b < 1899 > in IL, son of Carper GROVES (b abt 1863 OH d 7 Mar 1930 SD). Carper GROVES was a son of Jacob GROVES.

Victor J. PETERSON Jr's mother's OBIT: Brookings [SD] Register Sept 5, 1940: "Mrs. Victor J PETERSON Dies After Short Illness: Services were held Wednesday at 2 PM at the Bartling funeral Chapel for Mrs Victor J Peterson, 28, who died Sunday after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. PETERSON was born in Lawrenceville, Ill, coming to South Dakota with her parents when she was 15 months old. The family settled near Freeman and lived there until moving to Brookings in 1923. The Rev Harold Gross of Freeman conducted the service here. A Brookings public school student until 1928, when she was obliged to drop out because of ill health. She was married to Mr. PETERSON in 1930. Survivors include her husband, a son Victor Jr., her mother, Mrs C. GROVES and a brother, Charles GROVES of West Fork, Ark. Her father, four brothers and two sisters preceed her in death, Burial was in Greenwood [Brookings co, SD] cemetery." ---end----
Victor J. PETERSON Jr's father's OBIT: Brookings [SD] Register May 24, 1953: "Victor J PETERSON died Thursday at Brookings Munucipal Hospital. He was 51 years old. Mr PETERSON had been a farm hand and was employed by Harvey Leuning at Dell Rapids. He had lived in Brookings for 40 years. His wife Marie, died in 1930. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 PM at the Rudes Funeral Chapel. Rev E O Gilbertson officiated. Burial was in the Hetland cemetery. Pallbearers were Jake PETERSON Jr, Lyle PETERSON, Wesley PETERSON, Richard PETERSON, Philip PETERSON and Benjamin LEE. Mr PETERSON is survived by a daughter, Mary, and a son James of West Fork, Ark. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs Clara McGEE of Arlington and Mrs Alfred HEATH (Julia) of Brookings. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Nels of Bryant and Roy of Huron and a sister Mrs. Paul HANSON (Ruby) of Duluth, MN"
