John Peter LINDLEY and his 1/2 brother, James LINDLEY lived in Washington County, Arkansas. John was married before he moved to AR to Elizabeth BRANDON (her maiden surname). She died between 1862 - 1865. Would like to find exactly where (Washington County or Benton County ?) that she died and the date when she died. Try as I have, yet can not find where she is buried, does anyone know ? Does anyone know about the newspapers published at that time so I could find her obituary ? Maybe someone in Washington County has a collection of obituaries ? After his 1st wife died, John went to Texas and married 2nd Docie VEAL and brought her back to AR. They had 3 children born in AR, (either in Benton County or Washington County) 1.Martha A., 2.James W. and 3.Jacob M. Just exactly where the children were born, would like to find documentation. John moved his second family to Texas to be raised there. These three children think they were born in Texas, (source: census). John had loaned his 1/2 brother, James, money to purchase land in Washington County, AR. Would like to know "if" James's descendants are still in Washington County. Or did James go to Texas ? I come down thru John's 1st marriage & their last son, Benjamin Franklin LIINDLEY. John had slaves that he brought with him into AR. One of the female's might have been named "Mamie Lou" because after the slaves were freed, she lived with "Ben" until she died. Ben buried her, the oral family history say. Just where she is buried I'd like to find out. My grandfather, F.M. LINDLEY told me when I was a child, that his father "Ben" had nursed a black Nannie. Wouldn't that meaning have that she had had a child ? In my Census research, there is a "George" living with John LINDLEY after the slaves had been freed, and in the column under color, it looks like "W" with a "B" right over the top of each other following George's name. So I can not tell if he is a white person or a black person. The Census Enumerator has him listed as a LINDLEY. I've read that slaves when freed would take the surname of their owners, so this might be the case or not here. In studing the ages of my 1st Great-grandfather, Ben (a white person) and the age of George (color unknown), they are close enought for George to have been Mamie Lou's son ("if"). John LINDLEY also had a male slave the right age to be Mamie Lou's husband. What happened to George ? Is there anyone that has knowledge about the above persons ? Please let me hear from you. THANK YOU. Most Sincerely, Willie E. SEARCY
