Civil War Trason Charge - George McCollum
Posted by: William McCollum (ID *****6846) Date: July 17, 2003 at 17:08:21
  of 1239

In researching the McCollum family history I obtained a grand jury indictment dated November 18, 1865 against George McCollum for treasonous acts in Washington County on December 10, 1863. Since the war in the state pretty much ended with Union victories in late 1862, I am trying to determine what happened on December 10 in Washington County. The indictment cites an act of war by an armed group exceeding 30 persons, but names only McCollum. Should any of his descendants be interested, I can provide a copy of this very intersting document, which was prepared before the courts ruled that secession was legal and the acts of the Confederate States were not treasonous.
