I'm looking for information on my great grandfather, William J. Hilliard. I'm hoping to connect with other decendents that may have more information. This is what I know:
He was born in Jan 1844 either in Missouri or Arkansas as I have both on different censuses. In Champaign, IL 1865 he married Hulda Mitchell (Oct. 1846 Indiana).
They had two children:
Eliza J. (Oct. 1866 in Illinois)
William James (Oct. 1883 in Missouri)
I have censuses showing them living in Edgar Co, IL, and Crawford Co, AR. I have not gotten census data for them in MO yet. In 1902 Hulda died in Washington Co, Arkansas. Her obituary stated that she had a total of six children, only two were living at the time of her death. It has her husband
listed as Rev. William J. Hilliard.
In the 1920 census I have William J. Hilliard (the elder) living next door to his son William James in Brentwood, Washington County, AR.
Wm. (the elder) has listed as his wife Joe Belle (1880 AR). In the household are four children:
Violet (1904 AR)
Bulah (1906 AR)
John (1909 AR)
George (1916 AR).
All these children have their parents listed as father born in MO and mother born in AR.
I have not gotten Wm. J's death information, although I have seen two documents with William J. Hilliard as the undertaker in Brentwood, AR in 1928.
I would appreciate any help with these two families!
