Civil War and Indian Territory -ABBOTT
Posted by: Leah Date: July 20, 2001 at 10:14:13

I am in desperate need of ANY information that might provide a direction for me in searching for a lost ancestor and his Cherokee wife there about 1862.

Anyone with ABBOTT family information that might link this ancestor's orphaned boy, JAMES M. to their line PLEASE e-mail me lsessum@mesh.net

His father was killed in Civil War after he enlisted in Washington County. The mother was killed by raiding Indians on their way home to their land in Choctaw/Cherokee land in Indian Territory.

A sheep herder took James in. I'm not sure if he took their last name or if ABBOTT is his original name.

ANY help will be greatly appreciated. I've hit a dead end on this family line.
