I have Josephine's birthdate as 18 Jun 1864 in AR.She is the daughter of Jonathan Hartman b.1841 DeKalb Co, AL and Margaret J Buchanan who died in 1875.She had a sister named Sammie E Hartman (1867-1842).I am trying to confirm the children of Josephine as I have a living Harman relative who would like to talk about what happened to Jonathan. His daughter's filed for their father's pension based on his service in the 3rd Ark Infantry in 1888.He first enlisted in the Confederacy twice in 1861 and 1862 and then in the 3rd Ark Infantry Union in Jan 1864.He reelisted in the US Army in 1866 into the 42nd infantry and again in 1870 when it was merged into the 6th infantry and he deserted in Mar 1871 and was never heard from again.I have the pension application file copies.I can't find any of the children in the 1900 census.I find William Obediah Kendrick living with his parents as a widower in 1900 with a child named Manuel aka Mannie aka Emanuel Hartman for 1883 and who died in 1958.I found William Obediah as an inmate in the Austin State Lunatic Asylum in 1910.So what happened to Josephine. Why can't I find the other children and is Manuel a child of William and Josephine?
