Stone County genealogists and students of Stone County history may be interested in a 2-CD collection recently released by Lyon College. The CDs, Sounds of the Ozark Folk, contain more than two hours of live recordings made at the first Arkansas Folk Festival in Mountain View in 1963. The liner notes booklet also contains biographical information on a number of the performers, most of whom were Stone County natives. Among the performers featured on the 2-CD set are Jimmy Driftwood (ne James Morris), Neal Morris, Willie Morrison, Fate Morrison, Dewey and Dwane Richardson, Earl and Clyde Blair, Onis Morrison, Gertie (Morrison) Zinn, Haskell Avey, Charles Johnson, Dicie Johnson, Virgil Johnson, Dollie (Morrison) Gilbert, Ollie (Woody) Gilbert, JoAnn Lancaster, Eugene Dodd, Bookmiller Shannon, Sam Younger, L. B. Holland, and Forrest Brannon.

This is a non-profit endeavor and supplies are limited. To order the 2-CD set, send a check or money order in the amount of $20.00, payable to LYON COLLEGE, to:

Sounds of the Ozark Folk
Lyon College Regional Studies Center
P.O. Box 2317
Batesville, AR 72503-2317

The $20.00 payment covers the cost of postage. I hope you can help us get the word out to folks who would be interested in this piece of Stone County history.

Brooks Blevins
Director of Regional Studies
Lyon College
