A article in the Arkansas Gazette Oct 3 1943.
titled Women Of Arkansas 1861-1865.Mrs Helena Groves
said as a child of 13 she watch the only Civil War Battle fought in Sharp Co AR the Battle of Martins Creek it was fought on Her fathers farm.
Her father was John C Garner settled this land in about 1820
John C Garner was my 2 great grandfather.The land is just north of highway 62-63 south of Martins Creek. The town is Wiiiford AR. Mrs Groves said even thought almost 80 years have passed she remembers very vividly watching the battle from the window of their home. hope this helps Verlee
