My father and his father and grandfather was raised in Sharp County. Byrd / Bird Lane moved to Sharp county from Independent Co. sometime around the Civil War. He and most of his family worked at the Thompson Mill in Evening Shade. My grandfather Richard "Dick" Lane was a Mill Wright at the Mill and at several more in the area from around 1890 to 1930 when the depression and lack of work forced him to move his family to the 'Bottoms', around Grubbs, Arkansas. Byrd Lane married sisters; first to Mary Izabella Metcalf in Jan. 1856, they had three children, William V., John H., and Joseph L. Lane. After the death of Mary Izabella he married her sister, Eliza Jane Metcalf, a War widow of Joshua K. Blankenship. Byrd and Eliza had 6 children, Mary I. 1867, Adderson 1868, Charles Richard "Dick" 1871 [my grandfather], Thomas Murry 1874, Florence O. 1879 and Elmer Jenkins Lane 1881. My father was Luther D. Lane sometimes Layne. If anyone has information about this famiily or any of the allied families, I would love to hear from you.Thurman D. Lane
