My ggrandparents obtained a homestead near Provo, AR in 1901 or so and lost it in 1929. They were Jasper A. (Junior?) (d.1928) and Sarah Evaline Lee Smith (d.1942). His parents were James and Margaret M. Helms Smith, married in 1855 in Sevier County. Margaret's parents were Emanuel and Sarah Helms. They, too, had a homestead in Sevier County. Emanuel died in 1902 in Sevier County. Sarah Evaline Lee's parents were Wilburn and Elizabeth N. Thompson Lee. Rumor has it that Wilburn fatally shot himself accidentally in 1887/88(?), cleaning his gun. He was first buried along side the dirt road going out from Provo. Elizabeth was with child. Apparently, she miscarried and died as well. Then, Wilburn, Elizabeth, and "infant" were buried together in McHorse Cemetery. Elizabeth's parents were Charles and Harriet Staton Thompson who came to live in Sevier County, Ar. from Georgia. They had a farm as well.
Almost all of these people were buried at McHorse Cemetery in Provo.
My grandmother was Stella M. Smith (b.1903 in Provo), daughter of Jasper and Sarah. She married A. C. Patton in early 1920 in Sevier County. My Mom Josephine Patton was born on the homestead in Provo. She married Gordon Verner in 1937 in Antlers, Ok.
I would be pleased to communicate with anyone who has any knowledge of any of these folks.
