I am trying to prove whether the Jesse Adams born in 1857 and son of Green Berry Adams and Dulcenia (Unknown) might have been the son of Dulcenia Harrington of Searcy Co., AR. This Jesse Adams married Mary Frances Ledford and ifs found on the 1860, 1870 census.
It had been reported in the Big Blue Book, as they call if, from Marion County that his wife was Dulcenia Tutt; but I just do NOT believe that could be true. Dulcenia Tutt is only 15 and still living with her widowed mother for the 1860 Marion County census. I did find a posting on the internet of Green Berry Adams marrying a Dulcenia Harrington. So far I have not found who she was but the marriage took place in Searcy County and we do know that that Adams line was in that County. If the first child of Green Berry Adams and wife Dulcenia was born in 1857 then Dulcenia Tutt could not be the mother if she was single and living at home in 1860.
For that same 1860 census, there is a Green Berry Adams and Dulcenia age 21 and 20 and the two oldest children, Jesse and Richard, living in the household of Carroll Kilburn ( I have no idea if there is family connection or if Green Berry was just working for this man)
Green Berry 21
Richland Township, Search County, Jul 1860
All listed as born in AR - (note youngest Adams child had not been born yet.)
I found that Green Berry Adams was to have died during the Civil War and I do not know circumstance but perhaps a Civil War record does exist for him if he was in service. It was also said that his wife died about that same time. Howsever, so far, I do not know if that is true. BUT what is interesting to me is that those three children, Jesse, Richard and Greenberry, Jr. were living with their Uncle and Aunt Jesse Meadows Adams and Hannah (Younger)Adams for the 1870 Census in Searcy Co. AR Tomahawk township. Their parents were not in the household which really might mean they were deceased as the rumor has it. The children of Green Berry Sr. are no longer with them in 1880.
Do the Harrington or Kilburn surnames ring any bells? Harrington may not turn out to be the wife's surname but I just don't think it was Tutt - either.
The son of Green Berry Adams spelled his name Greenberry, one word, I think and he must have moved to CA, and he married a Bashaba Harrington. So I think they are from the same line. The death record listed his mother as a Harrington, also, which makes me think that her surname really was Harrington.
Green Berry Adams and Jesse Meadows Adams, Jr. were the sons of Rev. Jesse Meadows Adams, Sr. and Rhoda Martin. The Rev. Adams died in 1850 and is buried at Wiley's Cove in Searcy County.
