Tips for Obituary Pictures

I hope you won't think me morbid, but I'm at an age when I frequently find obituaries of friends, so I notice these things.

One thing that saddens me is that the published pictures are often badly out of date. If that's on purpose, I have no complaint or criticism.

But I suspect that in many cases it's because no recent picture was available. Most people my age don't have a portrait made very often. And snapshots most often show us in groups.

So it occurred to me that with the availability of digital cameras it would be convenient and inexpensive for many of us to take a picture of each family member--and many friends--on her/his birthday.

One could be printed and given as a birthday memento as well as for the family's genealogical record, and it would be available when needed for the newspaper.

And if you think of someone special, you don't even have to wait for her/his birthday!
