Casteel Cemetery St. Francis Co AR

This cemetery was in the a farm of my Casteel family. Some of the marble markers were stolen, after 1950, sold for marble. One group of stolen markers was found I understand before they could be sold. The first set of people/dates were from my friend, the second set of people/dates from someone who posted on genforum. You can look at both accounts and know which markers were stolen and are missing. I've been told this Cemetery is on Crowley's Ridge. You have to walk a mile or so from the Highway to find it in an overgrown setting. In the summer you have to watch for snakes, in the winter you have to watch out for being shot by accident by hunters, so I was told.

I just got off the phone with a Casteel relative. Her notes and pictures of these stones include:
From Tombstones she has pictures of and notes:

1. W.H. Casteel b 27 Dec 1845 d. 28 Dec 1888 (William Henry)
2. S.J. Casteel b. 11 Dec 1887 d. 21 May 1912 (Sara Jane wife of WH or William Henry
3. Others in the small cemetery - other stones were missing and destroyed or gone
a. Dr.Charlie G Thompson D. Jan 14, 1881
It was an angel that visited the green earth and took the angel away
b. George H Thompson d. Aug 1889 age 63 four months
Our father has gone before to greet us on the wistful shores
c. W.E Tyler 1884 - 1918
d. Nelson Whitsett b. 11-25-1811 d. Nov 2, 1872

PER KATHLEEN BELL,ST.FRANCIS COUNTY ARKANSAS CEMETERY RECORDS, VOL.2-COPYRIGHT 1988. HER NOTES SAY THE CEMETERY IS SOUTH OF FORREST CITY ON HIGHWAY #1 TO #131, TURN LEFT ON #131, TO THE END OF THE PAVEMENT.THIS ROAD IS IN LEE COUNTY BUT CURVES BACK ABOUT 1/2 MILE AROUND THE TOP OF CROWLEY'S RIDGE TO WHAT IS LEFT OF THE WHITE SECTION OF CASTEEL CEMETERY. AT ONE TIME IT WAS A LARGE CEMETERY, BUT BECAUSE OF THE UNDERGROWTH THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF GRAVES.

STEEL, GEORGE W.-JAN.22,1812 TO DEC.6,1863 ( What does this mean? could it be George W Casteel????)

AS YOU CAN SEE THESE ARE VERY OLD DATES AND ONLY A CONCERTED EFFORT TO SAVE THIS CEMETERY AND CLEAN IT UP WILL REVEAL MUCH MORE THAN THIS. IT IS CURRENTLY BEING USED FOR BLACK BURIALS.
