Yes, Larry...keep your hand on your wallet! You have landed smack dab in the middle of the Odoms. For starters...Mary Ann Mathis was the second wife of John Ollen Odom, my ggGrandfather. They were married in 1887 in Randolph county...late in life...and had no children together. John died in 1895 and Mary Ann died two years later. They are buried together in Siloam Cemetery, near Maynard, in Randolph county. As for your hunting buddy, Carroll Parker...he would be my 3 cousin. He ALSO is the ggGrandson of John Ollen Odom. His mother was Gwendolyn "Shorty" Odom, who was my 2 cousin 1 removed...and his father was Edmund Parker, who is my 3 cousin also. Getting back to the more serious point: I knew of the marriage of Odom and Mathis, but I do not have any holdings on Mason. My little bit on Mathis concerns William (Bill) Mathis who m. Cordelia Johnson (another 1st cousin 3 Removed). This links Mathis into the rather large collection of Johnson surnames located in northern Randolph county. My only data on the Mathis - Johnson marriage is that they had four daughters...thus, they most likely married and changed names and I have never followed up on it. Good Hunting, Fred Odom
