Philip GENTER (1853-1922) - Prairie County, Arkansas
This was posted some time ago on a different message board:
Appolonia Genter b. 1866, d. 1949, Haubstadt, IN,
married Mathew Hirsch ca 1888. Sibs are George, Anton,
James and Magnalena from the Evansville area.
Those are my Genters. But there is another sib, Philip Genter born in Johnson, Gibson, Indiana in 1853, same year as George, oddly. This is confirmed by a census from the 1800s, where Genter was misspelled as "Gender." This is the only connection I can find between Philip Genter and the others. But I know my info is correct because Philip Genter was my great-grandfather, and my family remembers him. He and his sons (Harry, Oscar, Felix, Florian, & Albert) moved to Brummitt, Arkansas.Philip Genter died in Arkansas in 1922.The father of Philip and his Sibs was variously known as Franz Anton Genter, Anton Genter, Antony Genter, and Anthony Genter. I have a copy of naturalization papers for Anthony Genter from Gibson County, Indiana dated 1847. He came from Baden, Germany and was married to Appolina Harnesfeger. Anthony and Appolina Genter were then parents to Appolonia Genter, presumably Philip Genter, and the others. I have a deceased aunt who was named Lona. We did not know where this name came from until I did my research.
If anyone has any additional info about Philip or Anthony Genter and their ancestors or descendants, please let me know.
