Thank you for your comments on the Garner/Cochran group. My GGrandfather was William Preston Garner who married Louise Palmer Cochran. William was listed on census as being from MS. He was b. 18 Sep 1845/54. and died in Lonoke, AR. He was a blacksmith.
Louise was b. 11 Aug 1865 and d. 7 May 1936. I have pictures of both and she certainly has the Indian characteistics. Their only living child, Drusella Kittley Garner was my Grandmother and stated that her mother was 1/2 Indian (Choctaw)which is a sub-tribe of the Cherokee. William Preston's father was William Harrison Garner and m. Sarah A. Moore. Census list him as being from TN. And his father was John Garner. My grandmother Drusella (Drue) provided the information and part from Census records. There was a James Edward Garber, who was a cousin of grandmothers, who was in the Civil War and was killed at Shiloh. (still according to grandmother). She had also indicated that they were a part of the removal. It would have to have been her grandmother to fall into the timeframe. Somewhere I read that was a Cochran mother who carried twin in her apron during the removal, with only 1 twin survising. If it was Louise Palmer Cochran's mother, it could be a real possibility from the stories the family has shared. you can contace me at cmdiel@ipa.net.
