Rayedene, thanks to your help, I think I may have finally had a breakthrough on Callie Whitley. I was able to find an 1860 Census Record in Edgefield, Davidson County, Tennessee (Goodlettsville) that shows R H and Sarah Whitley (parents) and Robert, Ann, and Caledonia as sibling children (as well as others). Dates and names correspond to the other census information (referenced by you) for Robert and Sarah in the 1880 Nevada Census records. 1880 Census records also show Ann as a sister to Robert, as well as Robert as Robert Jr. (consistent with R H as father of Robert and wife of Sarah) .This seems to substantiate your speculation that Robert and Callie Whitley were brothers and sisters and is the first record that I have seen that provides a clue as to Callie Whitley's ancestry. 1880 census record for Callie Whitley and subsequent records for her children indicate she was born in Tennessee. I should note that the name on the 1860 Tennessee census record is spelled Whitley (same as Callie Whitley) rather than Whitney as indicated on the 1880 Census Record for Robert Jr Whitney.
I have not been able to establish the definite Murphy linkage although your speculation about George Murphy (showed up in Robert J Whitney 1880 Census record as laborer) being a step brother and possible son to Sarah makes sense. As you pointed out, George Murphy shows us with family and mother Sarah in the 1900 Census. Age is approximately the same as the Sarah, mother of Robert Jr shown in the 1880 Nevada County census record. Robert, wife Arabella, and family show up in Redland, Nevada County 1900 Census and mother Sarah is NOT shown. Since George Murphy was born in app 1866, possibly Sarah Whitley married a Murphy between the 1860 census and 1866 when George Murphy was born, although I have not been able to find any Whitley/Murphy marriage records. Perhaps, as you suggested, George was really George Wesley Murphy (since Wesley Murphy was the name cited by my grandfather 30 years ago as Callie's brother).
Thanks again for your excellent suggestions. They may have contributed to the first breakthrough information after extensive prior research for my great grandmother, Callie Whitley McCain.
