I am seeking information on an "Unknown" Cogburn or Cockburn who would have died, no doubt in Arkansas, between abt July 1871 and April 1872 supposedly from an accident rather than a health issue; a great aunt said she thought this was an accident maybe involving a horse. The closest thing I have for an approx birthdate is just that his wife was born 1854; she was born in TX and I do not know if he was born either there or Ark most likely, but of course possibly somewhere else as well. My grt grandfather used the spelling Cogburn, but realize some of the Cogburns used the other spelling previously. His name was William (married to Jennie Davis) and was born April 1872. His father died before his birth. Wm's mother was Luisa Amanda White. I find an Amanda & Thomas(age 21 born in TX) Cockburn in Rusk Co TX 1870 which says she was born in TX and was 16; this info would match hers if she went by her middle name. Henry & Elizabeth Johnson Cockburn were in Rusk that census as well as W. O. Cockburn and another I cannot read; looks like it starts with a Z but then it could possibly say Jerry?? Since I find Henry and other families in Montgomery Co in the earlier census reports and he continues to be a possibility, thought I would post a copy of this here in hopes someone might see it and could help me. Wm & Louisa were in Howard Co Ark 1880; do not know if this is where his father died or not. At that time she had remarried Adam Whisenhunt. An older Whisenhunt cousin we found thinks Wm's father could have been a twin and the twin died at birth or very young, thinks the burial location could be Hope, Ark; then she does also say maybe Wm was the twin but my mother has always thought he was an only child. Wm and the Whisenhunts came to TX, first to Hunt, then Howard, then settled in Taylor Co. While in Taylor Co, a story from my grt-aunt says that after Wm was grown and had a family of his own uncles George and Andy from Ark came to visit on one or two different occasions. George was supposedly running from the law and Wm told him to go back to Ark. There are stories of Little George Cogburn, son of Henry & Margaret, hiding out in TX. There are actually about 3 Cockburn/Cogburn families from Ark in that timeframe who had sons by the name of George and Andy or Andrew. I just keep thinking someone descended from these earlier Cockburn-Cogburn Ark lines would have to have a man who died young, maybe was a twin, leaving a wife & unborn son, probably in a line with brothers George and Andy/Andrew, and would know something they might could share to help me get through this brick wall. Any suggestions, clues etc so appreciated. I've worked on this line so long, walk away from it but always come back as I would really like to find who my grt-gf Wm's father and family was.
