I am researching Morgan Rankins born about 1821 in S.C. He married Sarah. One of their children is thought to be Malon/Mahlon Rankins, who is also known as M.J.S. Rankins. Morgan was on the 1840 Picken Co. S.C. census. Later Morgan and Sarah appeared in Rabun Co. Georgia, not a far distance from Pickens. They had listed as their children Frances 9, Mail 8, Silas 6, John 4, thought to be our Malon, Elizabeth 4, and Sarah 2. We know that Malon went to the Logan and Scott Co. area of Arkansas. We believe that the Mayal Rankins that died in Mongomery Co. Arkansas is the Mail of above. We believe that Elizabeth of above lived in Magazine and Sugar Grove Arkansas, which would have been in Scott or Logan Co. We believe that Sarah married Henry Helton in Logan Co. Arkansas. We believe also that our Rankins family is related to a Nathan or Nathaniel Rankins. His wife was Rebecca Waters, and his children are Johnathan Miles, Jake, Olive, Melissa and John. We believe that Johnathan Miles is the John M. Rankins who married Grace Hooper in Scott/ Logan Co. Arkansas. They had children: Luinianne, Samantha, Franklin, Omer, Mary E. and Walter Scott. At one time this Nathan lived in Sevier Co. Arkansas. He could be Malon's uncle. Malon Rankins lived at one time in the Caddo Gap area of Montgomery Co. of Arkansas. Here he enlisted in the military for the conferate cause. H married Sarah Jane Gordon, but we have not found that record yet. Malon and Sarah Jane's children and their ages in 1870 were: George 11, (thought to be from an earlier marriage, Theodoria 4, John C. 2, James Benjamen 6/12. In 1880 additional children are listed: Rosetta E. 12 and Theophader J. 12. Missing in every census that his parents have been listed in, is William Marion Rankins, my gr gr grandfather. He has been listed as having been born between March 1, 1867-67. We have not a clue why he is always left out. It makes you start to wonder. But my grandfather Oscar Rankins had Malon Rankins listed in the family bible as his father. I wonder maybe if dad Malon had a wife before Sara Jane. One thought is that, if Malon had another marriage before Sara Jane, then William Marion could have been raised by his mom, but you would think we could have found him in the census. We have even thought that maybe William Marion might have been raised by his mom and a stepfather and listed in the censuses under his mom and stepdad's surname. We really don't know, but would love to find out. In the 1870 census Malon's mom Sarah is listed as Sarah F.Rankins 48, born in S.C. Also listed with Sarah are Malon's brother and sisters. They are Steven C. 14 born Georgia, Mary M. 16 born Georgia, and Creedy F. born in Georgia. Steven C. married first, Nancy Hooper and later Charlotta Lovealle in Scott Co. Arkansas. Mary, Malon's sister married a Brashear. Please contact me if you have any of these persons in your family records.
