There are numerous entries for Cyrus John and John Cyrus on Rootsweb's WorldConnect site with parents listed. You could contact some of the people who entered this info to see if they have a source.

Also, did he serve in the Civil War? There might be something of interest in his service record.

If you haven't, just Google his name (both ways) and see what you can come up with. New information is added all the time.

As a last resort, you could contact the County Clerk's office in the counties you mention. Even though the state did not record deaths in 1893, the county might have a record.
