I failed to call attention to the 1900 census showing Rebecca Martindale as being 51 yrs. old, yet showing her birth date as Apr 1859. Even a 6-yr. old would know that is incorrect. That would make the age shown on the 1880 census correct, and the 1900 census incorrect. She was about 15 yrs. younger than James, and was a young widow left with 4 young children (ages 1-8 or 9 yrs. old) at his death in 1988.
We hear that James was fortunate to live that long, carrying a ball from a gunshot received in the Civil War while serving the Union under Gen. Steele.
