Does anyone have any information about my GG Grandmother, Amanda M. Stewart. She was born Jan. 14, 1840 in Arkansas, possibly in Polk Co. Her parents were William and Nancy Stewart.
She married William Smoot, with whom she had three children, Burton Charles Smoot, Mary A. "Polly" Smoot, and Martha Jane Smoot. William died in 1863 in Ft. Smith, AR. According to family tradition, he was serving in the CSA army at the time of his death.
Amanda then married my GG Grandfather, Daniel Webster Byars on May 28, 1865, in Whiteson, Grayson Co., TX. They had six children. She died Mar 15, 1908 and was buried in South Sulphur, Hunt Co. TX.
Family tradition says that she was part Choctaw, possibly through her mother.
