Dear June, If we are not related it this is a fantastic collection of same name families! I have contacted an old
school chum of my brother whose last name is Evans and have found that we may actually be related, too. His grandfather was Walter Evans of Mississippi Co, AR, and my grandfather was John Wesley Evans of Dunklin Co, MO. I am
just beginning to research his Evans for a link to mine and
found that we are also related on my father's side (Roach).
So, I don't have much right now, but I will keep you in mind.

My Aunt Cosie (Hicks) Brown was married to a Brooks first
and had a son, Cohen Brooks. Cohen's children are all living in the NE AR area. Also, my Grandmother Brown Roach's brother was named Marshall Stuart/Stewart Brown.
I have more on him, too.

My older siblings went to school with Danny Lewis, and I went to church as a young girl and woman with Danny and his wife. The Lewises were actually from Lost Cane, AR and went to school at Manila. However, I can't remember Danny's father's name. My husband remembers Beacher Lewis,
and one of my brothers went to school with Sherry Lewis.
Are these names familiar to you?

In the 1970s, I worked with a Jim Britt in Blytheville, AR,
but I think he moved to Florida before 1980. I think his
family was from MO. Also, I have a "cousin" who has done
some research on the Britt (with two t's) family.

More on my grandfather and Skip's grandfather is that they
were both orphaned as young boys. They were born two years apart. When my great-grandfather, William S. Evans died,
Great-Grandmother (Mary Evans) remarried and moved to Leachville, Mississippi Co, AR. She gave my grandfather away, but she may have taken some children to Leachville with her. That is why I am so interested in your Oscar Evans. In the 1900 USA Census of MO, Dunklin Co (includes
Kennet, Senath, Hornersville, etc), John Wesley Evans is living as a boarder with Martha Dorherty and her family.
Granddad had a sister named Martha Evans, and I think that this could be her. She moved to MI and never kept in touch with the family after that.

I knew some Whitney's of Manila, Mississippi Co, AR. In fact, in the 1990s I visited with them in the Manila Nursing Care Unit there. Mr. Whitney was a resident and Mrs. Whitney spent most of her time there taking care of him. Sorry, my memory is fading and I can't remember their first names.

About your Effie Brooks, as I research my Browns, I will also be trying to find Brooks because I am also related to
George Brooks, and my great-grandmother Roach married a man named Dick (maybe Richard) Brooks after William Owen Roach
died. One of my sisters-in-law is from Leachville, so she
may be able to give us more info on the Brooks.

Hope to be of help to you and to hear from you,
Elizabeth Hatcher
