Thanks for the information on Nancy. This is a good lead. There was actually a Nancy Proctor on the 1840 Jackson, Alabama census. It may be the same person but I am not sure. Would you happen to know what Proctors paid taxes in Madison County in the years 1845-1850. Perhaps that would give me a clue as to Nancy's husband and then I might be able to confirm that person is the father to Ambrose.

As for W. D. Proctor, my information came from the House of Proctor Genealogy. His ID # is I11970. He is said to have drowned crossing War Eagle Creek at Longbridge's Mills as a member of the Cumberland Presby. Ch. There are some attachments to the record from the Annie Coleman Proctor Collection in LDS Micro Film Library including a letter from his brother Robert to his mother informing her of William's death. I do not believe that William was Ambrose's father.
