Hi, Patricia: Your post caught my eye and made me wonder from where your information comes, is it some sort of family lore or is there something more concrete to it? Either way, I did a little looking and found several old newspaper articles concerning the murder of a Rev. Sam Burns by two yound men, W. E. DARR and G. (or S.) P. Reynolds. The killing took place in 1897 so that's at variance with your info so perhaps this is just coincidence. However, the articles, to my recollection, don't say exactly where the murder took place but do identify the young men as being from Adkins, Pope County. As you likely know, Pope and Madison Counties are near each other. Maybe this is the incident in which you're interested. If you think so, then advise and I'll see what else I can find. Rick
