Mary Ann Smith was born March 1, 1841 in Wesley, Madison Co AR. She married John Robert Johnson, Aug 25, 1859. Mary Ann SMITH Johnson died, Feb 16, 1920 at Drakes Creek, AR.
According to Mary Ann's Civil War Widows application, she was born in Wesley, AR and lived there all of her life.
Her mother was Cherokee Indian. When Mary Ann and her siblings were small they were sitting at the supper table. The mother went outside to draw up a jar of buttermilk that was cooling in the creek. She didn't return and her husband later found her in the creek. Her hands had been tied and put inside her apron. The apron was pulled over her head and tied again.
Who were Mary Ann's parents? Who were her siblings?
When Mary Ann would tell the story about the murder of her mother she would start the story saying, "All us kids were sitting around the supper table". So I know she had siblings. Mary Ann was born in 1841 and married in 1859. I believe the murder took place between 1845 and 1849.
In the 1850 census of Madison Co AR there are a lot SMITH children living with various families in Madison Co. Could these be Mary Ann's siblings? I can't find Mary Ann in the 1850 census. When she is found in the 1860 census she is married to John Robert Johnson.
Mary Ann and John Robert Johnson had 9 children. The names of these children are as follows:
2 Janes Nathan
4 Nancy Isabella Elizabeth
5 Hannah Jane
6 William Nathan
7 Julia Ann
9 Thomas A
