In the 1840 Madison County census, there are no Hale families listed.
In the 1850 Madison County census, Prairie Township, there is a Franklin D. Hale, age 33, born Tn, with wife, Nancy, age 30, born Tn; and these children:Dewitt C.,a ge 10, Martha, age 9, Elbert G., age 7, Amanda, age 5, Mary age 3 and William age 3/12.
This is the only Hale family in 1850.
In 1860 Madison County census, Cedar Creek Township, there is a Thomas Hale,a ge 82, born in Maryland and a Chloe Hale, age 60 born unknown...both living in the household of Lewis Hallmark, age 34 born Tn and wife Rachel, age 33, born Ky.
In the 1860 Madison County census, Prairie Township, the same Franklin D. Hale family as shown in 1850 is found...with the addition of these children:John, age 7, Henry, age 5 and Sarah, age 2.
In the 1860 Madison County census, War Eagle Township, Town of Huntsville, there is W. M. Hale, age 22, born Tn and wife, Sarilda, age 17, born Arkansas...they married during the year of 1860.
You said your Hales came in the early 1800's to Madison County...Madison County became a county in 1836, so there are no records before that time.
Let me know if I can look anything else up for you here.
I volunteer with the Madison County Genealogical & Historical Society, and we have all of the available records.
